In the fall of 2008 Proposition 8 took place in California, denying thousands of couples the right to marry. Upon hearing this news Marti Gould Cummings along with Anthony Hollock formed Broadway Speaks OUT! As a member of the Broadway community, Anthony encouraged Marti to start a talk show online by interviewing friends of theirs who have appeared on Broadway. This grew into a very successful endeavor, even leading to a hit concert series benefiting LGBT organization in NYC.
Through the online talk show Marti has had the opportunity to interview the likes of Rosie O'Donnell, Liza Minnelli, Bette Midler, Martha Stewart, Fran Drescher, Rue McClanahan, Mario Cantone, and countless other celebrities about how their career are influencing LGBT Equality.
The Broadway Speaks OUT concert series has benefited organizations such as Broadway Impact and The Ali Forney Center for Homeless LGBT Youth.
Each year Broadway Speaks OUT produces the A Very MARY Holiday benefit concert at Dixon Place in New York's historic Lower East Side. This concert event has raised thousands of dollars for The Ali Forney Center for Homeless LGBT Youth and has had guest including Tony Award winning actor BD Wong.
Marti Gould Cummings and his team of fearless volunteers will continue to promote equality and acceptance through Broadway Speaks OUT and the many events and videos produced by BSO every year.
